AFTER MY TALK WITH LORENZO MY BRIEF HAS CHANGED. LIFE MAGAZINE WAS A BIT TOO LIMITING REGARDING IT'S CONTENTS WITHIN AND ON THE FRONT COVER. I WOULD HAVE TO PRODUCE MORE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES (WHICH WOULD BE HARD TO CAPTURE FOR SEASONAL/MONTHLY EVENTS/ISSUES).
THEREFORE
I HAVE CHANGED TO PRODUCING 12 FRONT COVERS FOR THE 'g2' MAGAZINE (PART OF GUARDIAN). THIS WAY I CAN EXPLORE A WIDER RANGE OF MEDIAS AND SOLUTIONS WITHIN MY DESIGN SOLUTIONS, STILL MANAGING TO PRODUCE WHAT I WANT TO GET OUT OF THE BRIEF.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I thought about having the November issue of 'g2' themed for Remembrance Day. I had this photograph I had taken over summer and thought I could use it for one this particular front cover.
Further experimenting with 'g2' type, layout, colours etc...
AFTER TALKING TO JOE.
We decided it would be good to keep the same style running throughout my covers. We both felt like the illustrated fish seemed to have more individuality and were working a lot better than the other two.
I have decided to keep all the covers illustrated, I'm going to approach the subjects in an illustrative way.
I drew this from the photograph of the poppies. Seeing as the poppy photograph was something I had taken myself, it was working as an image but not as part of my magazine cover collection. I decided to use the image because I thought it worked well, and was a different more interesting way to see poppies.
Once scanned in, playing around with scale, layout and whether the type sits on top, underneath or bit of both.
I think I prefer the image coming in from the left, it works well with the type (but not suffocating 'g2'). I am undecided on whether I like the bunch of poppies or just the one, I think both work well, I don't want the one to have too much white space around it.. I do think that it works as a way to communicate 'poppy day', I don't know whether it's because it's by itself it seems more important? However, does the bunch communicate team? Society? Hmm
