Here are some questions I should be asking myself for EACH brief:
- What do I want to get out of the brief?
- Why have I chosen this brief?
- What could/should I do for this brief?
- What are the problems involved in this brief? (do 10)
- Is this brief appropriate to my design practice?
Here are responses from the workshop to PROBLEMS:
Here I have written a brief:
FILM MAG.
I want to produce a series of film magazine covers because I want to explore the use of photography used within film and using within a context. I want to develop my photoshop skills by manipulating and rendering film stills, and transforming them into appropriate images that can then be used as a cover for a film magazine. I want this to be a brief that will be appropriate and useful when in my portfolio. I am interested in film marketing and haven't used film photography and type at all within the 3 years on this course. I also want to work towards restrictions, if I have limited products (covers for magazine) and specific films then I will work mainly on the photograph itself. I want to also consider layout and type within my design, and feel that magazine covers, cover this in a light but suitable way.
My deliverables will be 12 magazine covers, at the moment, that is my decision. However I have my group crit tomorrow so we will see whether I will do less, depending on what will more effective.
TO DO;
- List of films 2011, determine which specific one will be used for covers
- Logo name/style/design
- Source good images/high quality
- Continue research into contents of film magazines, what is absolutely necessary and what can I miss out (I don't want my cover too cluttered like some of the existing magazines I have already researched.
This brief is a chance for me to work with film, film photography, develop Photoshop skills, work further on type and layout.
