photographic? illustrative? approach to re-branding/designing the 'LIFE' magazine, for the new published editions that could be sold in the UK.

BOOK JACKETS (in box set form) & in store promotion & film poster to support available merchandise

I have chosen to produce a box set of books containing all converted film-book editions by Danny Boyle.
- 127 Hours
- Slumdog Millionaire
- The Beach
- 28 Days Later
- A Life Less Ordinary

I want to explore the print processes within the prints (book jackets, posters, other promotional prints). My range will be the series of Danny Boyle films in book format (packaged as a box set as well). I want to explore using spot varnish, prints that really show quality.

IDEAS for imagery

127 HOURS
- egg timer, water bottle & mouth with drip, blunt knife

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
- optional choices in 'who wants to be a millionaire' form'
- money as heart?
- bank note as something else
- train (heads hanging down from train window) (hands grabbing)

THE BEACH
- beach setting illustration
- shark bite/snorkelling gear
- big bag of rice
- tattoo

28 DAYS LATER
- blood shot eyes
- bald head looking out to empty city
- ankle with bloody hand grabbing it

A LIFE LESS ORDINARY

LIFE magazine, another idea

HEART?

These are all rough designs, it's the ideas that I am trying to document.

Making a start on 'NPG'

This was an idea that I imagined as soon as I read the brief. I want to use faces and type.

Looking at these from further away, I think the image might need to be blurred more? I want the face to be recognisable but not obvious from first look

This one is slightly more blurred, I think it works better, not just like a out of focus photograph, but has more to it?

another idea,

LIFE magazine brief - further insight

ONE.

I have been researching the magazine a bit more and have found out that it has been around since 1883.

After years of publishing and also struggling it ended main publication in 2007.

It has a partnership with Google, that hosts it's images for online access, and they are available through 'LIFE photo archive hosted by Google' on Google images.

SO

(I have been thinking that perhaps I could re-launch the magazine, promoting it and trying get people interested in it again. My main interest regarding design within this brief was the aspect of designing the front covers. I want to combine type and image in a interesting, effective way. So I still want to design a range of magazine covers, but alongside that I will produce a small but effective advertising campaign that will revive LIFE magazine for a third time.)

TWO

'Design and produce a range of film posters with proposed promotional material'

I want to design a range of film posters for either one film or a range of films.

Could it be a cinema release? Or a relaunch at a dvd/supermarket? Or a the film/s released as books?

I need to think about what films, and for what reason they are being promoted.

'DESIGN THE INTERIOR/PROMOTIONAL ASPECTS FOR A CINEMA RELEASING (FILM)' - promotional material

what film?

3.

Design and promote an exhibition for some alternative, poetry related type and image art/prints. Consider the space, and how it can become an interactive environment.

I want to communicate the poetry in a creative, interactive way.

I will develop the space given myself, it won't be an actual exhibition area.

I will design some of the gift/merchandise available, including prints of the poetry (designed)

4.

Re introduce the National Portrait Gallery. Through design, promote the gallery and try to encourage viewers to visit it.

I will use the medium of portraiture to try and entice the audience.

I want to think of ways of promoting it as publicly as possible.

5. (extra one...back up?)

Design an advertising campaign and design product (new) something organic? a food/drink?

I ALSO HAVE

spare briefs,

- competition briefs & 'street talk' brief (design and show your feelings or issues or thoughts in print form that would be in a bus stop side.
